Converting a 26-inch MTB frame to a 27.5-inch frame

Sometimes it is possible to modify an MTB frame designed for 26-inch wheels and adapt it for the new 27.5-inch format.

This is the case with this frame. After verifying the feasibility of this modification using a template, the practical work began: the wheel clearance between the chainstays was already sufficient, so it was only necessary to modify the bridge connecting the top tubes, reducing its size.

As can be seen from the photos, its thickness was reduced by about 1 cm and reinforced so as not to compromise its structural integrity.

Repairing a broken spoke on a Mavic Ultimate wheel

An unfortunate accident resulted in the breakage of this carbon monocoque spoke with the rim.

Following the same procedure used for Lightweight wheels, it is possible to replace the spoke with a new one, retension it and then glue it, thus obtaining a wheel that is once again fully functional and, above all, guaranteed.

Repairing the bottom bracket on a Scott Scale

Very often, over time, carbon-aluminum bonding problems arise, even in the best bicycle brands. An example of this is this Scott Scale frame, where the bottom bracket shell has come unstuck. However, Doktor Bike can repair it using a specific technique that he himself developed and tested over the years.

Repair of spokes and rim on Lightweight carbon wheels

Even Lightweight wheels, including broken spokes, are no problem for Doktorbike. This is what the bike wheel looked like before repair: two completely broken spokes and a crack in the rim. (photo 1). After rebuilding the spokes and the flange-hub in a mold, they are glued to the hub and pre-tensioned, then glued to the bike rim. This process was designed and tested by Doktorbike, and the final result is shown in the second photo.

COLNAGO FRAME - HORIZONTAL TUBE REPAIR

The work on this frame took quite a long time, but the structural part was the easiest to complete.

As you can see from the photos, the graphics here were particularly intricate and difficult to produce, but our painter recreated them almost perfectly.

RECONSTRUCTION OF THROUGH-AXLE SUPPORT ON SCOTT MTB FRAME

As can be seen from the photos, the right-hand side collar of the through pin was seriously damaged, but repair was possible, albeit quite challenging.

The result is reliable, as the repair is guaranteed for 3 years and satisfactory, both from a functional and aesthetic point of view.

LIGHTWEIGHT SUMMIT STORM BILATERAL BREAK

The repair was complex, as the breakage was bilateral and there was a high risk that the wheel would not return to its original shape.

However, the use of a special mould created specifically for this wheel made it possible to resolve the issue in the best possible way, and the wheel is now perfectly repaired and safe.

SCOTT ADDICT damaged

As can be seen in the photo, the frame was seriously damaged on both sides of the down tube, on the top of the horizontal tube, and at the front on the head tube.

The repair was completely successful, and now the frame is as reliable as before.

MODIFIED SPECIALIZED EPIC

This frame was first repaired, then modified to accommodate 27.5 wheels, and finally completely repainted and reassembled, as can be seen in the photos.

The work took a long time, partly because it was done in my spare time, but the end result is very satisfying.

Reconstruction of carbon fork blades

In many cases, the lack of a steel plate on the dropout, at the hub stop, causes wear on the dropout itself.

Over time, this causes misalignment of the wheel which, in extreme cases, causes the tire to rub against the chainstays.

Doktorbike uses a lathe to make custom-made stainless steel bushings, which are set (and structurally glued) onto the dropout, thus solving the problem at its root by preventing wear on the stop.
